About the Program————————

LAB B’s Zero Gravity Co-op Program is an experiential learning model that provides high school students with the resources and connections to explore pathways to employment and better post-secondary decision making.

LAB B is dedicated to bridging the gap between what students learn and what employers want. Students will work throughout the program to build upon their skills through workshops and activities.The tools learned throughout the program will allow students the ability to create their own business.

Overview

What will I learn?

Learn Both Technical and Soft Skills

Over the course of the 15-week program, students will learn a number of new skills, as well as develop their current skills, through various workshops, activities, and projects. There will be many options in the program to enhance students’ ability to use their communication skills in a team setting to achieve results. Students will need to invest time in using a vast amount of different programs and software throughout the program to complete tasks and projects. There is a final project component to the program that allows students to create their own business and learn the important aspects to consider when starting a company, like developing a business model canvas, prototyping, customer validation, ‘first 20 for your business to survive,’ and more. The Zero Gravity program is in place to help students see their potential as business professionals and develop the skills needed to be successful.

What will I build?

Over nine weeks you’ll build an awesome portfolio

Over the 15 weeks, you’ll build an awesome body of work.
The best thing about LAB B’s Zero Gravity program is that it’s unlike any other high school co-op, in that you will gain tangible skills and knowledge that will give you a head start in the verticals of digital marketing, entrepreneurship, and web development. At LAB B, the goal is to prepare students to become leaders in the community and help them make their visions a reality. All students will build a resume, cover letter, and Linkedin profile in order to convey some of the great knowledge they have learn throughout the program.

Learning Environment

LAB B is Brampton’s one and only coworking space in the heart of downtown Brampton. It is a place to connect with number of business professionals and government officials. The company’s building is walking distance from Starbucks or Brampton’s very own T by Daniel. The co-op program is structured in a way to allow students to have more of an interactive and collaborative learning experience. Students in each of the 3 verticals will be working with mentors in the field to provide guidance and share their real-world experiences. Students in the program will have opportunity to connect with LAB B’s network and take part in weekly workshops to learn or enhance new skills, this will prepare students with the right tools to be successful in their post-secondary education or entering the workplace.

Support

LAB B will be working closely with their students and provide them with the appropriate resources to help them be successful in the program. There will be 3 mentors, 1 for each vertical in the 15-week program. Students will also be able to network with other business professionals throughout the program by attending events and workshops at LAB B. The organization wants to encourage individuals to be lifelong learners, and have a growth-focused mindset when dealing with constructive feedback. Students will be taught to learn from the setbacks they would face when developing their own business or working for an employer.

To be accepted into LAB B’s Zero Gravity co-op program:

Prerequisites: Must be enrolled in high school (2 or 4 credit program)

Step 3: Attend an interview in order to see if you are the right fit
Step 4: Acceptance to the program!

Through the web design vertical, students will learn the foundations of what it takes to be a web developer. Terms such as HTML, CSS, and Javascript will no longer seem like gibberish. Students will feel comfortable with their understanding and application of these concepts.

Program Roadmap

Week 1: Orientation Week

Learn all about LAB B and get familiar with the fun startup culture. Participate in exciting team building and self discovery activities. 

Week 2-4: Fundamentals

Engage in various skill building workshops with Mentors. Understand the fundamentals and industry standards for your passion with online courses and exercises.

Week 5-8: Activities

Execute on smaller projects to hone the skills you are developing. Practice using your new tools to build, create, and make.

Week 9-12: Project

Contribute to a large team business competition while utilizing your specific skills developed.

Week 13: Portfolio

Build a professional portfolio to showcase your newly developed skills Set up industry standards platforms to become job market ready including Linkedin, Resume & Cover Letter).

Week 14-15: Wrap-Up

Enjoy the last weeks of the program with class and industry connections. Celebrate the completion of the program through ceremony.
